Condensation - A Growing Problem

This Condensation is Created By Us

By Tammy James, Senior Marketing Executive, October 2019

Did you know that spending 16 hours or more per day at home increases the likelihood of having mould and condensation by 33%, and makes us 10 times more likely to suffer with breathing problems?

Most homes will experience condensation and it is a common consequence of modern living and more energy efficient homes. This condensation is created by us! An average family can produce up to four pints of water per day through bathing, cooking, washing and drying our clothes, and just by being there. You can’t always see this moisture once it is absorbed in t the air but this humid environment provides the ideal conditions for mould spores to germinate and grow, and for dust mites to breed in the home.

These allergens can aggravate asthma and trigger allergic symptoms, so while your properties may be subjected to cosmetic damage caused by condensation, the health and wellbeing of your tenants will also be at risk. Many housing providers and landlords tackle the problems by trying to encourage their tenants to adopt humidity-reducing lifestyle changes: opening windows and closing doors in moisture-producing rooms, keeping the property warm to reduce cold spots, and not drying clothes inside. In reality, it is often difficult to enforce these changes and when it’s cold outside any activities that result in a loss of heat and increased fuel bills are often abandoned.

The modern way to ventilate
So what’s the solution? For properties badly affected by condensation dampness, the most effective solution is Positive Input Ventilation (PIV), the ventilation technology invented by Nuaire over 40 years ago. The PIV process involves drawing fresh air from outside into a fan located in the loft area and gently pushing the filtered air into the home causing positive pressurisation. Moisture-laden stale air is forced out through the natural leakage points and as a result the humidity is drastically reduced and allergens are removed from the air creating a healthy indoor environment. Quiet and energy-efficient in their operation, our popular Drimaster-eco PIV systems will reduce the overall maintenance costs of a property by protecting the fabric and materials in the home and preventing the build-up of tell-tale signs that often trigger tenant complaints.
