Getting To Know You

By Tammy James, Senior Marketing Executive,September 2019

Welcome to the third edition of our monthly 'Getting To Know You' features, celebrating the diversity and wide range of skills and expertise within Nuaire. This month Nigel Clements, head of after sales department faces our tricky Quizmaster...

What do you do at Nuaire and in what circumstances would someone come to you for something?
Head of Aftersales and responsible for the management of our product warranty processes and providing technical support for our UK and overseas markets. Aftersales is a cross between International Rescue and the UN. We need to respond when things are going wrong but keep the peace in an often hostile environment. Friendly fire is always a possibility!

What is the biggest misconception about your role?
That we can fix ‘anything’ and have engineers instantly available with any part at any time. Miracles are easy; it’s the impossible that takes a bit of planning.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to your approach to work?
My father and my very first M.D.
My father for his work ethic (he put 5 kids through college, built his own house and after 43 years of working was awarded the Imperial Service Medal)
My first MD for giving me the opportunity and scope to learn and test myself in business without the fear of failure.

Can you tell us about a work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?
The Aftersales team winning the Andy Warren award in 2017.

Who inspires you?
Inspiration comes in many forms and from a variety of people but if I had to name check a few it would include Fred Beckey (legendary American climber), Jeff Bezos (CEO of Amazon), J. K. Rowling and any professional cyclist riding a Grand Tour.

What are you passionate about?
As family is a given, I’ll go with:
Arsenal FC (fan since I was 5 years old),
Playing or listening to music (3 guitars & a drum kit so far)
Anything with wheels
My rescue cat Rainbow

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
A tough question so any one of the following:
Prime Minister
David Attenborough
Keith Richards
Lewis Hamilton

What’s the most challenging thing you’ve worked on during your time here?
Managing sub-contract operations across multiple UK projects and developing commercial and safety systems to deal with this. Negotiating claims, contracts and framework agreements is a close second.

What is the best thing about working at Nuaire?
The opportunity to be involved in new challenges and to keep learning. We never have all the answers but keep trying to find solutions.

What’s your favourite quote?
C.S. Lewis — ‘There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind’
