Nuaire Supplies High Temperature and Axial Fan Solutions to Qatar’s Prestigious FIFA World Cup Stadiums.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup™ will be a tournament of many firsts – the first World Cup to be held in the Arab World, the first in a Muslim-majority country, and the first not to be held in May, June or July – instead opting for a November to December schedule to coincide with Qatar National Day.

Nuaire has been involved with two major stadiums being built specifically for the tournament, including the state-of-the-art Qatar Foundation Stadium.

The Qatar Foundation Stadium

The Qatar Foundation Stadium was designed by Astad Project Management consultancy, with CONSPEL awarded installation works. Built using complex geometrical patterns, and designed to pay tribute to traditional Islamic architecture, the Qatar Foundation Stadium will have a capacity of 40,000 and, as with all proposed 2022 FIFA World Cup™ venues, will feature state-of-the-art cooling technology, ensuring comfortable playing and viewing conditions for players and football fans alike.

A primary target during design has been to achieve a Gold Sustainability Building Certification in the US Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) ratings system. The stadium will also incorporate sustainably-sourced building materials that minimise embedded carbon and adhere to energy usage best practices.

Nuaire supplied 185 fans to the Qatar Foundation Stadium, which is part of the Qatar Foundation Stadium and Health & Wellness Precinct.

Centrifugal Impulse fans are used for the car park extract systems to control and remove pollutants such as carbon monoxide and also under emergency conditions in the event of a fire as all units are dual rated for 300 Deg.C for 2 Hours, certified to EN12101-3. They have been designed by Nuaire to be highly cost-effective, requiring less ducting than comparable fans and with running costs reduced by up to 40% through monitoring the air quality and operating the system at its optimum level.  Furthermore, with a larger air distribution coverage area, fewer fans are required to achieve the same result.

In addition, the system installation is further supplemented with the Nuaire AXUS axial high performance single stage, run & standby and high temperature emergency extract fans up to 1250mm diameter have been supplied.  These have a duty range of up to 42, 45 and 64m3/s respectively. Axus fans provide guaranteed ventilation for high temperature applications.

Al Janoub Stadium (formerly Al Wakrah Stadium) 

Designed by the famous Zaha Hadid Architects, Al Janoub Stadium is inspired by the hulls of the traditional dhow pearl fishing boats, further reflected by the use of timber and traditional materials. The stadium will have a capacity of just under 40,000 seats, making it eligible to host World Cup matches up to the quarter-final. MPSJV is to carry out all M&E installation.

Nuaire supplied a total of 213 fans of various types and sizes, including many axial type fans, for different applications on the project. The project was split into numerous sections, covering mainly extract systems for large axials, but also incorporating the stadium’s general ventilation systems.

Nuaire’s pedigree and successful delivery of numerous projects over several decades in Qatar, supported by our extensive EN certified ranges which all carry local Qatar Civil defence certification, gave the consultant and contractor the confidence in the product and the Nuaire team to meet the specification and delivery on time and within budget.


The FIFA World Cup is a sporting event like no other.  It’s watched by millions across the world and even those with little interest in football find themselves drawn into the party like atmosphere that surrounds it.  With its being held in an Arab country for the first time, the region wants to clearly show its competence in handling such a major event and the quality of the infrastructure being developed is essential.
