The latest innovation in heat recovery from UK manufacturer Nuaire has been given an industry stamp of approval with a nomination for Energy Saving Product of the Year in the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2014.
Recognised leaders in commercial ventilation, Nuaire has produced heat recovery ventilation units for over two decades, however with changes in regulation and the construction industry’s need for enhanced ventilation performance, the manufacturer saw an opportunity to introduce a new range of heat recovery products that are smaller, quieter, more energy-efficient and easier to install than the current market offering.
Since its launch in January 2013, the new XBOXER XBC range has been in high demand for school building projects where the reduction of energy consumption is becoming the main driver in the choice of services. Recognition from the CIBSE Awards judging panel further identifies the XBC range as a new innovation in commercial heat recovery.
Colin Biggs, Technical Director at Nuaire comments: “Creating a healthy learning environment with good air quality and energy-efficient operation is high on the agenda in today’s school projects. The XBC range incorporates one of the most efficient counter-flow plate heat exchanger matrices available, with a thermal effectiveness of up to 95%, and is fitted with a 100% bypass facility and actuator which, when combined with Nuaire’s proven Ecosmart or Trend-powered Ecosmart 2 controls, provides the most effective and energy efficient heat recovery system in its class. The combination of leading edge components and state-of-the-art controls helps schools and colleges to reduce energy usage and save money.”
Whilst building control managers are benefiting from the reduced energy usage and increased controllability, the XBC range also addresses the practical problems with site ductwork arrangements. Its unique design layout enables configuration and “handing” on either side of the unit. The fan requires only 260mm clearance for side access compared with the 600mm clearance of typical heat recovery systems on the market.
Mr Biggs explains: “The XBC fan range is used in a wide range of applications but is particularly suited to ventilating schools with its ability to meet the strict noise requirements of BB93 Acoustic Design for Schools. The design for the XBC is based on extensive research, both in the laboratory and in real schools, on the acoustic challenges prevalent in schools. The range offers a guaranteed low sound level with an acoustic design that ensures low induct and breakout noise.”
Nuaire set itself a tough challenge in designing a new heat recovery range that was smaller and easier to install than its predecessors yet equally as powerful, quieter and more energy-efficient. The resulting range is now proving to be the fastest selling heat recovery product in the commercial portfolio. Mr Biggs continues: “We are delighted to be nominated for a CIBSE Building Performance award, which in itself is evidence that the XBC range is in addressing some of the issues facing the construction industry. We look forward to celebrating our inclusion in the awards ceremony with the best of the construction industry in February next year.”
