Case Study - £1 million contract for welsh company
More and more we are turning towards renewables as an alternative energy source and an environmentally friendly way of powering our homes. Faced with spiralling energy costs and environmental constraints, designers and architects are increasingly including solar energy in residential developments.Caerphilly-based Nuaire is a pioneer of solar technology. Last week, Andrew Davies, Minister for Enterprise, Innovation and Networks, visited their design and manufacturing facility to find out for himself how this innovative welsh company is blazing a trail in the solar housing market.
Nuaire has just won a £1 million contract to supply Haslam Homes with its inventive Sunwarm system, for the Showell Park housing development they are building on land sold by Wolverhampton City Council. A 205 unit regeneration project, not only is it the single largest residential development in the UK to use a solar heating and ventilation solution like Sunwarm but it also represents the biggest renewable energy contract for a Welsh company.
The Sunwarm System is a combined heating and ventilation system providing home heating or cooling, ventilation and hot water by harnessing the sun's energy.
"Being selected for the Showell Park project is a great endorsement from Haslam Homes and Wolverhampton City Council as to the quality and efficiency of the Sunwarm system, said Alan Wright, MD of Nuaire. Sunwarm was one of the fundamental factors which enabled the project to achieve the desired “EcoHome” housing standard which was an important factor in Haslam Homes winning the contract”
Nuaire, which currently employs 350 was established in 1962 and is the UK market leader in whole house ventilation. In the last few years it has scooped a host of prestigious awards in recognition of its business excellence including a Queen’s Award for Enterprise and Innovation in 2004, for its ground breaking approach to low energy ventilation systems.
Expansion is very much on the horizon with the R & D team at Nuaire dedicated to developing new products and improving the existing range. Over 3.5 million has already been invested in plant and equipment and £1 million in innovative product development in the last few years
“The contract is immensely important to the company, said Alan, “it strengthens our position as a leader in renewable technology in the UK. The increasing costs of traditional energy together with recently introduced legislation to promote the increased use of renewable energy sources as well as the need to develop solutions to adapt to climate change means that this is a growth market for Nuaire’s products.”
Andrew Davies said, “Being awarded the largest renewable energy contract for a Welsh company is a great achievement for Nuaire. I am delighted that the Haslam Homes contract has signalled the way for further expansion into the solar energy market. Nuaire’s contribution to the Welsh manufacturing economy over the last 3 decades has been significant and their plans for growth demonstrate their commitment to the local economy of Caerphilly and Wales as a whole.”
