Genie Kitchen
Genie Kitchen Extract Fans
GENIE kitchen/utility room extract fans are, like other extract fans, designed to operate in conjunction with "rapid ventilation" such as openable windows and "background ventilation" such as trickle vents in windows to provide ventilation in accordance with Building Regulation requirements. Please refer to the following documents for additional information:- The Building Regulations (England and Wales), Approved Document F.
- The Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations, Part K.
- The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland), Technical Booklet K.
If there is concern over the occupants regular use of the "rapid ventilation" and "background ventilation" measures provided then the use of the NKF1-X, or NKF1-XR units is strongly recommended. These units operate continuously to provide background ventilation with boost extract as and when required. They do not therefore rely as much on the occupants use of the other ventilation measures to provide adequate ventilation in the home.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a Nuaire Genie Toilet/Bathroom Extract Unit?
It is a small surface or recessed mounted unit specifically designed to ventilate small rooms such as toilets, bathrooms and cloakrooms within your property. The unit is designed to operate in conjunction with ‘rapid ventilation’ such as openable windows and ‘background ventilation’ such as trickle vents in windows to provide ventilation in accordance with building regulations. The unit is small in size with a depth of 126mm, and 173 mm x 200mm length.
- What does the unit do?
The unit will help to prevent the problems associated with condensation dampness in your home. The unit will constantly extract unwanted moisture from within the property. The unit also eradicates the musty smells evident in homes with severe condensation problems.
- How does it work?
Simply and very efficiently. Air is drawn from the wet room into the unit, passing through the washable filter fitted to the front cover and released via a low resistance louvre from the property.
- How much does it cost to run?
When operating at full speed the unit uses approximately 26 watts and approximately 10 watts when operating on trickle speed. This means an average running cost will be approximately less than a penny a day.
- How do I operate the unit?
This will depend upon the model you have fitted. Some units are entirely automatic (Genie-PIR, activated by occupancy sensor), some semi automatic (Genie-H, activated via pull cord/light switch but with automatic override by adjustable humidistat). Others are manually controlled (Genie-X and Genie-X12) and will give constant trickle / back ground ventilation and then boost via a light switch or pull cord.
- What maintenance is required for the unit?
Maintenance will vary depending on the mode of operation and the frequency of use. The exterior of the fan can be wiped clean from time to time but an abrasive cleaner or bleach should not be used.
- How will I know when the filters will need replacing or how will I know when a service is required?
The best way of telling is to examine it. You will see it discolour when dust and grease has built up and this would be the best time to wash it. Keeping the filter clean will ensure your fan will always run at optimum performance. We do recommend that a full service is carried out every 18 months, please contact our Customer Service Team on 08705 002 555.
- How will I know if the unit is working?
The unit motor may be almost inaudible but you should notice that while your unit is running, moisture will be extracted from your wet rooms more effectively.
- How will I know if the unit is working?
Firstly check if you can hear the motor running. If the motor is running, then you may just need to check to see if the filter is clogged. If this is the case or if the motor is not running, then please contact our Customer Service Team on 08705 002 555.
